Camino de Santiago, Day 58 Camino Francés, visting Ponferrada

Rest day in Ponferrada. Today allowed me to rest and get some physiotherapy on my wonky knee, do some preparation for the next three weeks, and explore a bit of Ponferrada. The Templars’ Castle is absolutely amazing. Tomorrow it’s a 26 km trek to Villafranca del Bierzo. Buen Camino

The Templars’ Castle, or “Castillo de los Templarios,” in Ponferrada is a stunning medieval fortress with a rich history. This impressive structure, built by the Knights Templar built during the 12th and 13th centuries
“Now go away, or I shall taunt you a second time!”
(All you fellow sophomoric Monty Python fans would get this)
A sally port at the Templars’ Castle in Ponferrada
The Basilica de la Virgen de la Encina, located in Ponferrada, is a significant religious and historical landmark. Dedicated to the Virgin of the Oak, this beautiful basilica dates back to the late 16th century
Ran into this dude out by the castle. We had a couple of beers, but he didn’t have much to say.
Testing the local vintage with Markus. We recommend it.
